The Siren’s Song – Tanvi Jain

Perched on a bed of rock

Surrounded by the gushing sea

A siren, exquisite and bewitching

Beckons sailors silently

Then she opens her mouth to sing

A golden, dream-woven melody

Desires, deep and dark

Want, from the sailor’s heart, to be free

He’s blinded, by mist, by greed

His course changes, chasing ‘beauty’

Towards the awaiting monster

He drifts slowly, longingly

Soon, he stares into the eyes of his doom

Fantasies washed away by reality

A sunken ship and broken dreams

Lie at the siren’s feet like eventuality
