Let’s take a look at the forms of music available in 16th century—operas, orchestras and musicals. Walking up those stairs and sitting in a box, listening to someone down on the stage singing… It’s so classy.

You know what they had? Aesthetic. You know what we have? The Internet.
Which is better? Dressing up in four sets of corsets to see a show, or sitting in your sweatpants at home on your couch, enjoying shuffle on your phones?

That’s right. The Internet is here!

Technology has evolved to a point that we can easily listen to a wide variety of genres of music. Don’t like this song? Pause. Choose another. Play. Yeah, sure, you put it on shuffle, yet you skip most of them till you find one you like… You can’t really do that with performers, can you?

The truth is, at this point, we can not only listen to music online, but also learn it.

You want a piano lesson but have no fixed time for classes? Don’t worry—get a course online, and the teachers will contact you if you need help. Replay the recording as many times as you fancy and learn.

Feel that doesn’t work out? Need live interaction with the teacher? Those are available online too! Yes, you will have to fix sessions for that, but it will save you the daily commute!

There’re thousands of lessons available online. There’re different forms of vocal and instrumental lessons offered.

I learn Carnatic music, have been for the past six years (maybe more), but my teacher had to move away. Usually, having the same teacher helps maintain a flow, and you can keep building on the same foundation. So, we decided to continue our lessons. How? Skype and Facetime. They won’t be the same as learning in person, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be good.

Getting back on track, operas and orchestras are really amazing. People put a lot of effort just to come on stage and sing for people sitting in chairs.

Music changes lives.

Listen to the melody, to the beat, to the short breaths between words… it’s fascinating, it’s… touching.

Music is also therapeutic. Music can calm nerves and lets us concentrate. Doesn’t matter if you listen or perform. It’s relaxing. It’s a haven.

Close your eyes. Don’t listen to the music, feel it.
